Our primary purpose is to assist our Black congregations to become more effective in mission and ministry.
The way that we will do that will be to create strategy for all of the Black churches in this conference by working directly with clergy and laity as a resource committee that will develop a program of best practices and strategies for effective results that move our churches from decline to revitalization.
Organizing works! We are thrilled to announce that yesterday the City of Inglewood passed a permanent rent stabilization ordinance, capping rent increases at 5% per year!
On Tuesday, June 11th Inglewood City Council passed a permanent rent stabilization ordinance for local residents. This comes after more than three years of community advocacy led by the Uplift Inglewood Coalition. Together we mobilized more than 150 residents to request amendments to the proposed ordinance, many of whom spoke in public comment for more than three hours requesting that the City Council reduce the annual rent cap from 8% to 5%. The ordinance includes Just Cause eviction protections, establishes a rent board, and caps rent increases at 5 percent per year, with some exceptions.
