Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! My first semester at Gammon Theological Seminary (GTS) is quickly coming to an end and exciting things are already happening. Let me begin by thanking all of you for an amazing inauguration on Friday, March 2, 2018. The Inauguration Committee did a superb job. I sincerely appreciate all the prayerful support of countless individuals toward that significant ceremony.
I enjoy getting to know the students of GTS. Our students are smart, creative, and have a passion for competent religious leadership. Our students give me more hope for the future of The United Methodist Church and the future of the world!
I attended the National Black Methodists for Church Renewal (BMCR) in Sacramento, California during March 14-17,2018. GTS was well represented at the conference. Rev. James Anyike, President of the Gammon National Alumni Association, helped to ensure we had a wonderful spirit-led luncheon for alum and friends of GTS!
Many thanks go to Bishop James Swanson for serving as Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, as his term ended on Friday, March 2, 2018. Bishop Jonathan Holston is the new Chairperson of the GTS Board of Trustees. I sincerely appreciate the support of the Board of Trustees in the wide-ranging ways they help to ensure the future of GTS. I look forward to a continued productive working relationship for the benefit Gammon's very bright future.
As the picture above shows, I recently visited Gammon Street in Atlanta, Georgia, named in honor of Elijah Gammon, the name-sake and a chief founder of GTS. Rev. Elijah Gammon could have only hoped and imagined that his investment in a dream to create a seminary would last for 135 years and benefit so many students, alumni, congregations, faculty, staff, and communities across the globe. We are blessed today because of his vision so many years ago!
I invite you to journey with Gammon! Invest with us and dream with us, because Gammon is moving in miraculous directions. We want to hear your thoughts as we grow, stay tuned for surveys and other communication to solicit your ideas and feedback!
Grace and Peace,
President-Dean Ken J. Walden
